How long have you been doing this? 4 years

How has this helped you as a veteran? I was a flight nurse in my military career, an ER trauma nurse in my civilian career, and a reserve police officer for the Los Angeles Police Department.  All the trauma I saw in these three careers took a toll on my well being. I was seeing a constant slide show of shot, beat, stabbed, traumatized and dead human beings.  When I started painting I realized the slide show was appearing less frequently.  Picking up a paintbrush had a calming effect on my demons.  Art is my space for solitude where I can tune out, unwind, and create.

If you could give one piece of advice to veterans who feel completely lost since being discharged what would it be? Find a purpose. Live your life.  Reach out to veterans service organizations like Team RWB and Team Rubicon.
